Centennial Helps Houston Small Businesses Compete for Government Contracts
JOC contractor boosts its small business support through involvement in GPC
HOUSTON, TX—April 3, 2009—In keeping with its core value of supporting the small and minority business community through the hiring and mentoring of small subcontractors, Centennial Contractors Enterprises, is sponsoring Government Procurement Connections 2009 (GPC). The event will be on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at the George R Brown Convention Center.
In addition to its sponsorship, Centennial is also an active member of the steering committee for this public sector contracting fair, business expo and entrepreneur training conference. GPC offers small businesses, prime contractors, government agencies, and other organizations a one-stop shop for information regarding contracting opportunities. GPC also offers small firms the opportunity to establish relationships with prime contractors.
“We always want to build relationships with more small business subcontractors, so GPC aligns perfectly with our goals,” explains Rhonna Endres, Centennial’s manager of market development and GPC steering committee member. “This year’s focus is on the Recovery Act’s stimulus funds so we invite all small and minority businesses to attend this great event by registering at www.houstongpc.com.”
Centennial, a national job order contractor (JOC), works on several government JOC contracts in the Greater Houston area. Currently, 85% of Centennial’s work in the area is performed by small business subcontractors.
“It’s critical to support the small business community, especially during economic downturns when small subcontractors find it even harder to bid competitively on the projects they need for the livelihood of their businesses,” says Walter Won, senior project general manager for the Houston area.
