Top Statewide Safety Award Goes to Centennial Contractors

Associated General Contractors of Washington gives Grand Award to Centennial Contractors Enterprises for its innovation and leadership in safety.

FIFE, WA— June 3, 2010— The Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Washington honored Centennial Contractors Enterprises of Fife, WA with its Grand Award for Safety at its Build Washington Awards event June 2 at the University of Washington’s Kane Hall.

“The Build Washington Awards showcase the skill, integrity and responsibility that makes AGC contractors a cut above,” said AGC President Tom Zamzow.

According to AGC, Centennial was selected for its innovation and leadership in safety. Among the many significant factors that led to the honor was that Centennial recorded zero Time Lost injuries during more than 160,000 employee-hours worked in 2009.

“This award represents the commitment to safety by the entire Northwest Operations team, and this along with the leadership and vision by our safety team enabled us to capture the Grand Award,” said Brent A. LeVander, Senior Vice President of Centennial’s Western Region.

“Centennial has a deeply-rooted safety culture that is instilled in all levels of the organization. All new Centennial employees begin with an orientation that includes comprehensive training locally and a four-day orientation at the firm’s corporate headquarters in Virginia,” said Brian Salsgiver, CSP, Sr. Corporate Safety Manager

Centennial’s safety culture extends beyond its employees. Subcontractors must have their management team complete a safety orientation before they are allowed to bid on Centennial projects. Their foremen and work crews receive a project-safety orientation as well, and attend sponsored safety fairs where Centennial’s employees, subcontractors and customers listen to presentations from nationally recognized safety experts. Centennial also works closely with the different state and federal safety organizations, and recently entered into an Alliance with OSHA Region 10.
