Scope: One of the key advantages of Job Order Contracting is that a wide variety of projects can be placed through the term of the contract ranging from simple to complex and small to large. An example of a fairly small project, although a little complex due to location was one in which Centennial was tasked with re-painting the exterior of elevated walkway tubes for Wilbur Wright College.

To insure safety, the area beneath the walkways were cordoned off. After power washing and hand scraping loose dirt and old paint, the tubes were primed and painted with two coats of DTM paint.

The project was placed through the college’s JOC contract due to time constraints and the need to have the project completed prior to the end of the fiscal year. Centennial was able to complete all the necessary work within one week and 5 days ahead of schedule, even though weather conditions caused a three delay in starting the project.
Challenges: The biggest challenges was the need for a scissor lift to gain access to the tubes, located 25 feet above grade and the fact that all painting was completed by hand, to avoid any over spray that could possibly contaminate or land on the surrounding structure and area below.
Summary:
  • Projected completed within budget.
  • Projected completed ahead of schedule.
